Trio Marilys

Hélène Walter, soprano
David Walter, hautbois
Marina Saiki, piano

Since its creation in 2019, this unusual chamber ensemble has been dedicated to exploring the many facets of vocal music, ranging from Lieder to opera excerpts. The Trio Marilys enriches its repertoire by commissioning works from young composers, while also incorporating transcriptions by David Walter. Special attention is given to women artists—poets and composers—whose talents have often been overshadowed by a tradition dominated by men until recent times. The Trio Marilys is thus engaged in an artistic movement aimed at redefining our concept of genius by bringing to the forefront those who have long deserved their place among the greats. A powerful example is the poet Renée Vivien, who was ostracized throughout her life despite her brilliant writing, due to her gender and her inclination towards women. Hélène Walter envisioned an artistic encounter between the poet and the composers of her time, merging the music of composers like Gabriel Fauré with these powerful verses. This creates a unique, rich, and moving dialogue, offering us a new perspective on what Paris at the dawn of the 20th century could have been.

 "Soveraines"

The red thread of female creativity unites the works recorded in the Da Vinci Classics album, which explores how poetry and music can intertwine in the form of Lieder or mélodies. In some cases, the works recorded here are offered in their original version; in others, the recording artists have put their own creativity in the front line, realizing new combinations or commissioning new works.
